Why the pad goes even when the carpet stays
Pad is a sponge. It holds many times its weight in water, dries far more slowly than the carpet above it, and is cheap to replace relative to the cost of the drying time it would add. Pulling it, drying the carpet and subfloor properly, then laying new pad is almost always faster and less expensive than trying to save it.
Wet carpet left on a subfloor traps moisture against the material beneath. On concrete that means it stays wet for weeks; on wood subfloor it can mean cupping, delamination and eventually replacing the floor structure — a far larger job than the carpet ever was. Fans blowing across the surface do not solve this.
What we do
Extract in overlapping passes until the return runs clear, lift and dispose of the pad, then dry the carpet and the subfloor beneath it with air movers and dehumidifiers, measuring both. Where carpet is salvageable it's re-laid over new pad and re-stretched. Where it isn't, we'll tell you that at assessment rather than after billing you for a week of drying.

Can wet carpet be saved?
Often, with clean water and extraction within roughly 48 hours — it can usually be dried in place and re-laid over new pad. Carpet soaked by sewage or floodwater is not salvageable, and heavily delaminated carpet generally isn't either.
Why do you remove the pad but keep the carpet?
Pad holds many times its weight in water and dries far more slowly than carpet, so saving it would add days of drying at a cost well above replacement. Removing it and drying the carpet and subfloor is faster and cheaper.
Can I dry wet carpet myself with fans?
Fans move air across the surface while the pad and subfloor underneath stay wet. That produces carpet that feels dry over a floor that isn't, which is the usual route to odour and mould a few weeks later.
How long does carpet drying take?
Typically three to five days of monitored drying after extraction, with readings taken in the carpet, pad area and subfloor until they match unaffected areas.
